The subjects

Three ways into your sketchbook.

  • Study 01

    A street worth stopping for.

Look at the shape of a building, the rhythm of its windows and the details that give it character.

  • Study 02

    Something already within reach.

A cup, a tool or a folded cloth can be enough to begin. Find subjects in the things around you.

    Explore Everyday Objects in Ink
  • Study 03

A place you want to remember.

Bring scenes, small discoveries and a few words together in a personal travel sketchbook.

The method, such as it is

Look. Choose. Draw.

  • Look

Spend a moment with your subject before starting.

  • Choose

Decide which shapes and details matter to your page.

  • Draw

Make a first study, then return with a new observation.

A sketch can be a way of paying attention.

The guides

A small shelf of possibilities.

Three focused guides, from the table in front of you to the streets beyond it. Each one stands alone; all three are still being written.

Havelo / Study 01

Choose one small facade

Start with a building you can see comfortably. Look for its overall shape before adding details. Mark the roofline, the sides and the ground. Choose three features that give it character: perhaps a doorway, a row of windows or an awning. Draw those first. Leave some areas quiet so that every brick does not compete for attention.

Try this

Draw the same facade twice. In the second sketch, keep only the lines that help you recognise the building.

Havelo / Study 02

One object, three observations

Place a cup where you can see it clearly. Before drawing, notice its height compared with its width, the angle of its rim and the space inside its handle. Make a loose first sketch. Look back at the cup more often than at the page. Add only a few marks to describe the shadow. Stop while the drawing still has breathing room.

Try this

Draw your cup from three positions. Under each sketch, write one shape you noticed that you had missed before.

Havelo / Study 03

A page about one place

Choose a place where you can pause comfortably. Make one main sketch to set the scene. Add two smaller details that caught your attention: a chair, a doorway or a cup on the table. Leave space for a date and a short note. Your page does not need to contain everything you saw. Choose what you want to remember.

Try this

Visit somewhere nearby. Make a page with one scene, two details and a sentence about what you noticed.

Our approach

Your eye. Your line.

HAVELO starts with ordinary subjects and room to explore them. The guides invite you to look closely, choose what matters and make a drawing that belongs to you.

No style is prescribed and no level of skill is promised. These are independent creative concepts rather than a validated teaching method, written for adults beginning or returning to observational drawing.

FAQs

Before you choose a study.

Are these printed books?

The planned guides are digital PDFs. Book images are mockups; no physical book or drawing materials are included.

Are the complete guides available now?

Not yet. The current package presents the proposed collection, contents and sample pages. Full manuscripts are in development.

Do I need drawing experience?

The proposed guides are intended for beginners and returning sketchers. They introduce manageable subjects and practical observation prompts.

What materials will I need?

The approach starts with paper or a sketchbook and a drawing pen. Any additional materials will be listed in the completed guides.

Do I need to travel for The Travel Sketchbook?

No. You can begin with a nearby street, a local cafe or another familiar place you can comfortably observe.

Can I start with one guide?

Yes. Each planned guide has its own subject and can stand alone. The collection offers all three together.

Will these guides give me a particular drawing style?

They are designed to support observation and practice while leaving room for individual choices. No specific outcome or level of skill is guaranteed.

Are the page counts and prices final?

They are targets and proposed prices. Final details will be confirmed with the completed editions.
